Hello everyone! Welcome to YourAverageTennisBlog. This is a blog written by a casual fan of the sport, who just wants to voice their opinions and predictions on the great sport of Tennis. I picked up a fandom for tennis while watching Roger Federer capture the 2017 Wimbledon title, and my love has grown ever since. In the last 3 years I have become more educated on the sport, learning how the rankings work, and what the different levels of tour events mean. It has been a joy to watch this great game, as well as the legends that make it so great.
A little about my tennis fascination to give you an idea of who I am as a tennis fan. My favorite player is Roger Federer. He introduced me to this game, and by following the latter stages of his career, I’ve grown my interest and curiosity. I am a sucker for the greats of the game, so other players I enjoy watching are Marin Cilic, Stan Wawrinka, Andy Murray, and Milos Raonic. As that generation of tennis players see their careers reach the end, I have also taken a liking to some of the young, up and coming, players that are the future. When Roger eventually calls for the end of his career, my new favorite player on tour will be Jannik Sinner. I love seeing a tall, lanky, skinny player (must like myself) go out on the court with such confidence and power. I also enjoy watching some of the young Americans including Taylor Fritz, and crowd favorite Francis Tiafoe.
Tennis is in a state of turnover. The era of the “Big 3” (I like to still say Big 4 for Andy) is coming to an end, and a new generation of young players look eager to take over. I am excited for the future of tennis. As one all-time great rivalry falls to history (Rafa vs Roger), a new one seems to be sprouting in the soil of the former’s greatness (Alcaraz vs Sinner). It is cliché to say, but I can’t seem to stop myself, “The future of tennis is in good hands”. Who knows where this uncertain future will take us, but I look forward to sharing that future with all of you
Sincerely,
Owen Martin
